US weekly jobless claims rise 2,000

Mubasher: US unemployment claims rose 2,000 week-on-week to 216,000 claims in the week ended 10 November, data released on Thursday revealed.

The more stable monthly average of claims went up 1,500 to 215,250 from the previous week's unrevised average of 213,750.

The provisional seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ended 3 November rose to 1.2% from the prior week’s unrevised rate.

The advance seasonally adjusted figure for the insured jobless individuals in the US climbed 46,000 to 1.676 million during the week ended 3 November, compared to the prior week’s upwardly revised 1.630 million.

The preliminary unadjusted figure of actual initial claims filed under state programmes reached 230,978  in the week ended 10 November, rising by 15,821 claims or 7.4% from the claims filed in the previous week, while initial claims reached 236,654 in the comparable week last year.

By 1:30 pm GMT, the index rose 0.39% to 97.1820.
