Qatar unveils design of biggest stadium for 2022 World Cup

Mubasher: Qatar has revealed the design of Lusail Stadium as part of its preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Situated at the heart of the Lusail Marina—15km north from Doha, the stadium will be used for the opening and final matches of the 2022 World Cup.

“It has now been eight years since we won the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and we told the world to expect amazing. With this stunning design of our showpiece stadium, I am proud today to once again be delivering on that promise,” Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), said.

The 80,000-capacity venue will be the largest of eight stadiums set to be built for the one-month tournament.

“Lusail is a city for the future, and once the World Cup is over it will – like each of our other seven stadiums – form a crucial part of the legacy of the tournament as it transforms to become the heart of a brand new community,” Al Thawadi added.

He noted that infrastructure works at Lusail Stadium are progressing in all areas.

The construction of the stadium is scheduled to be completed by 2020, the SC said, giving no further details on its cost.
