Saudis mull power plant privatisation with over SAR 60bn revenues
The step is part of the oil-rich kingdom to reduce dependence on government's electricity generation

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia is weighing up privatising power plants over the coming period in a bid to slash state-funded electricity projects, according to a local daily newspaper.

The step is part of the oil-rich kingdom to reduce dependence on government's electricity generation, Al Eqtisadiah reported.

If implemented, this  procedure is forecast to contribute to boosting the Saudi electricity sector and diversifying generation sources, while privatising power stations is expected to achieve SAR 60 billion in revenues.

On a related note, the Saudi Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority is currently preparing a plan to develop and restructure the electricity sector.
