IRENA to boost global renewable energy in February summit

Mubasher: Ministers and top officials from 160 countries will participate in the Ninth Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and discuss supporting the international renewable energy industry.

IRENA will kick-off in Abu Dhabi, the UAE on Friday 11 January and conclude on the 13th.

Attendees of IRENA’s upcoming session are expected to be the highest ever, a statement by IRENA said on Thursday, noting that during the three-day event, the assembly will elect a new director-general.

“IRENA’s almost-universal membership is an indication that renewable energy is truly a global undertaking and a key policy priority for countries all over the world,” IRENA’s director-general Adnan Z. Amin said.

IRENA will offer various solutions to enhance global collaboration in the field of energy transformation, Amin added.

“China has made renewable energy a clear strategic priority to serve both our economic and environmental goals but also to strengthen China’s contribution to key global objectives,” commented Li Fanrong, vice president of China’s National Energy Administration, who will preside over the new edition of IRENA.

IRENA is an international intergovernmental organisation that helps nations use renewable energy. It also promotes all clean energy including solar, wind, ocean, hydropower, bioenergy, and geothermal energy.
