Ford reveals plans to cut 1,150 jobs in Britain

Mubasher: Ford Motor Company is planning to lay off 1,150 jobs in Britain, the vast majority of them will be at its Bridgend engine plant in Wales.

The Michigan-based automaker stated that it would consult trade unions regarding the jobs cut plans, according to Reuters.

“Unite is fully committed to opposing any compulsory redundancies and campaigning strongly for Bridgend to have a viable future,” the automotive spokesman at Unite the Union Des Quinn commented.

Early in January, Ford said that it was planning to lay-off thousands of workers, especially in Europe as a part of its restructuring strategy, which aims at reducing labour costs.

"We are taking decisive action to transform the Ford business in Europe," Steven Armstrong, Ford Group vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said in a statement.
