QSE marks 3rd straight weekly rise

Mubasher: The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) closed the week ended Thursday, 17 January, 2019 in the green, registering its third weekly gain in a row. The rise was backed by five sectors.

The QSE’s general index jumped 1.22% or 129.53 points to close at 10,787.75 points. Turnover amounted to QAR 1.45 billion, down 1.3% from QAR 1.47 billion last week, while volumes retreated by 31.49% to 49.23 million shares traded against 71.85 million shares.

This week witnessed four companies disclosing their annual results, namely Qatar National Bank (QNB), Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), Ahli Bank, and Gulf Warehousing.

The QSE’s benchmark index grew on the back of five sectors, led by transport, which added 5.74%, while consumer goods and industrials increased 2.76% and 2.55%, respectively, while the telecoms and banking sectors edged up 0.38% and 0.04%, respectively.

On the other hand, the real estate and insurance sectors lost 1.61% and 0.18%, respectively.

A total of 24 companies closed the week in the green, led by Zad Holding’s 21.12% surge, while 19 stocks ended lower, led by Qatar First Bank (QFB), which dropped 8.15%, while three remained unchanged.
