Mubasher: Retail sales in the UK declined 0.9% month-on-month in December 2018, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Friday.
In the fourth quarter of last year, UK retail sales edged down by 0.2% from the previous quarter.
The volume bought in retail sales climbed 2.7% last year, an annual slowdown compared with the high reached in 2016.
By 9:37 am GMT, the GBP/USD pair fell 0.28% to $1.2949, while the EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to GBP 0.8803.
