Trump reportedly directed Cohen to lie about Moscow Tower project

Mubasher: News reports have emerged indicating that US President Donald Trump had asked his attorney Michael Cohen to lie to congress about a tower project in Moscow.

According to BuzzFeed News, Trump had directed his attorney Michael Cohen to lie to congress about talks to build a Trump Tower in the Russian capital.

In addition, the now-US President had supported a plan, originally set up by Cohen, to visit Russia during the presidential campaign to "personally" meet President Vladimir Putin "and jump-start the tower negotiations," Two federal law enforcement officials involved in the Trump Tower investigation told BuzzFeed News.

“Make it happen,” the sources said Trump told Cohen.

Earlier Trump had told the public that he had no business deals with Russia. However, the sources also revealed that both of Trump's children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., had received "regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project," according to Buzzfeed News.

In November, Cohen pleaded guilty in lying about the Russia deal. In addition, special counsel Robert Mueller said that Cohen’s false claim that the project had ended in January 2016 was merely an attempt to “minimise links between the Moscow Project and Individual 1,” who is widely believed to be incumbent President Trump, “in hopes of limiting the ongoing Russia investigations.”

"Now the two sources have told BuzzFeed News that Cohen also told the special counsel that after the election, the president personally instructed him to lie — by claiming that negotiations ended months earlier than they actually did — in order to obscure Trump’s involvement," the news outlet said.
