Saudi Arabia confirms money-laundering combat commitment
Saudi Arabia’s Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan

Riyadh — Mubasher: The decision of including Saudi Arabia in the European Union’s (EU) blacklist of 23 nations due to money-laundering activities “isn’t final”, the kingdom’s finance minister said in a statement.

The move must first be approved by the European Parliament before taking effect, state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday, citing Mohammed Al-Jadaan.

“Saudi Arabia’s commitment to combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism is a strategic priority and we will continue to develop and improve our regulatory and legislative frameworks to achieve this goal,” Al-Jadaan said.

The kingdom also reiterated its commitment to joint global efforts to combat money laundering, according to SPA.

On Wednesday, the European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, made a blacklist of 23 countries linked to money-laundering activities.

The list included Saudi Arabia, Panama, and the US Virgin Islands.
