Uber rolls out safety features after college student’s murder

Mubasher: Uber unveiled new features for the safety of its riders in the wake of a South Carolina college student’s murder earlier in April, NBC News reported on Thursday.

Uber will add new push alerts that will remind customers to check the licence plate, the driver’s photo and name, as well as the hailed vehicle’s model and make, the US ride-sharing giant’s legal and security officer Tony West told the news TV.

The new measures came after a man was charged in a murder of a University of South Carolina student who was believed to have gotten into her killer’s car, mistaking it for an Uber car.

The move came at the same time when Uber prepares to go public.
