Mubasher: Amazon is leading a $575 million funding tranche for Deliveroo, one of the top restaurant delivery services in the UK, CNBC reported.

The funding round, in which also existing investors T Rowe Price, Fidelity Management, and Greenoaks are taking part, takes the total Deliveroo has raised to $1.53 billion.

The US e-commerce giant’s investment will be utilised to develop Deliveroo’s engineering team in its London office, and expand its delivery reach.

 “Amazon has been an inspiration to me personally and to the company, and we look forward to working with such a customer-obsessed organisation,” Deliveroo CEO Will Shu said.

Founded in 2013, Deliveroo works with more than 80,000 restaurants and takeaways and 60,000 riders to deliver orders.

Like its rivals Uber Eats and Just Eat, Deliveroo provides delivery services allows users to order food from nearby restaurants via an application, but it operates in 14 markets, including Germany, Hong Kong and Australia.
