Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s annual core inflation slid to 7.83% in May from 11.086% in the same month a year earlier, data by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) showed on Monday.
The country’s monthly core inflation registered 1.24% in the fifth month of 2019, compared to 0.36% in April, the CBE added.
Meanwhile, the annual core inflation stood at 8.109% in April.
Earlier this day, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed that Egypt’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1% month-on-month to 311.1 points in May.
The CAPMAS attributed the increase in inflation rate to the price hikes of fruits by 18.1%, meat and poultry by 3.6%, bread and grains by 0.7%, and fish and seafood by 1.2%.
