Egypt agreed to purchase 180,000 tonnes of Romanian wheat

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s ministry of supply and internal trade, represented by the state-run General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), has signed a contract to purchase 290,000 tonnes of wheat.

The most populous Arab nation has agreed to purchase 180,000 tonnes of Romanian wheat and 110,000 tonnes of Russian wheat, GASC said in a statement on Wednesday.

It is noteworthy that Egypt’s strategic wheat reserves are sufficient to cover the countrys needs for up to five months, assistant to the minister of supply, Ahmed Kamal, previously told Mubasher.

The rise in strategic wheat reserves was ascribed to the growth in the amount of wheat delivered by local farmers after raising wheat prices for this harvest season, which started in April, he added.
