flynas pens $2.4bn deal with Airbus
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of The Paris Air Show

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi national carrier, flynas, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus to buy 20 of the latest A321XLR and A321LR aircraft to be received by 2023, Saudi Gazette reported.

The agreement, which was signed on the sidelines of The Paris Air Show, valued at $2.4 billion (SAR 9 billion).

“Today, we are pleased to sign the most prominent MOU of its kind in the region for the procurement of A321XLR and A321LR aircraft. This step is in line with flynas’ strategy to expand and reach more long-haul destinations in order to open new markets,” Ayed Al Jeaid, chairman of flynas, commented.

Bandar Al Muhanna, CEO of flynas, said that A321XLR and A321LR aircraft are famous for their ability to fly for more than 11 hours, with a long-range operational performance of 8,700 kilometres.

He added that flynas will be the first operator of this type of aircraft in the Kingdom.

“We have already received two aircraft, and next week we will be receiving the third one, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom,” Al Muhanna noted.

Under the deal, flynas targets the Umrah markets with a goal to transport around 5 million pilgrims per year, which will contribute to increasing the number of pilgrims in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to receive 30 million pilgrims annually, the CEO pointed out.

It is worth noting that flynas, the leading low-cost airline in the Middle East, launched new destinations during 2019 including Vienna, Tbilisi, Batumi, Sarajevo, Baku, and New Delhi.
