US durable goods orders drop in May

Mubasher: Demand for the US manufactured durable goods dropped in May, the US Census Bureau’s data showed on Wednesday.

The volume of orders dropped by 1.3% to $243.4 billion last May, after plunging by 2.8% in April, the US Census Bureau said.

Commercial non-defence aircraft stumbled by 28.2% during the month, as US plane maker Boeing had to cancel an India-bound large order of its beleaguered 737 Max jet.

However, if vehicles and aircraft are excluded, orders rose by 0.3% last month.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods went down by 0.4% in May to $254.1 billion last May.

Unfilled orders for durable goods declined by 0.5% to $1.171 trillion, according to the data.
