US oil inventories fall 9.5m barrels; prices extends rally

Mubasher: US crude oil stockpiles fell by 9.5 million barrels to 459 million barrels in the week ended 5 July, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said.

Total motor gasoline stockpiles declined by 1.5 million barrels, while distillate fuel inventories rose by 3.7 million barrels.

US crude refinery runs averaged 17.4 million barrels per day (bpd) during the week, 148,000 bpd more than the previous week’s average, while refineries operated at 94.7% of their operating capacity.

US crude imports dipped by 284,000 bpd to an average of 7.3 million bpd for the week, compared to the previous week, the EIA said.

Following the EIA’s release, US Nymex crude futures jumped by 2.78% to $59.44 per barrel (pb), while global benchmark Brent futures climbed by 2.73% to $65.91 pb.
