Huawei to axe hundreds of US jobs – Report

Mubasher: Huawei is reportedly planning to make hundreds of major job cuts at its US operations, as the telecoms giant continued to struggle with Washington’s blacklisting, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said.

The layoffs are set to affect workers at the Chinese company’s US-based research and development (R&D) unit, Futurewei Technologies, the WSJ reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

While the precise number of jobs to be cut is not determined, the move is set to affect hundreds.

Employees at Futurewei have been facing strict scrutiny over communicating with colleagues in Huawei’s offices in China.

This came after the US Commerce Department decided last May to add Huawei to the so-called entity list, which banned US firms from selling technology to the tech behemoth without licence.

It is worth noting that the unit employs around 850 people in research labs across the US.
