US oil inventories fall 3.1m barrels; prices rise

Mubasher: US crude oil inventories fell by 3.1 million barrels to 455.9 million barrels in the week ended 12 July, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said.

Total motor gasoline stockpiles grew by 3.6 million barrels, while distillate fuel inventories climbed by 5.7 million barrels.

US crude refinery runs averaged 17.3 million barrels per day (bpd) during the week, 172,000 bpd less than the prior week’s average, while refineries operated at 94.4% of their operating capacity.

US crude imports fell by 470,000 bpd to an average of 6.8 million bpd for the week, compared to the preceding week, the EIA said.

Following the EIA’s release, US Nymex crude futures jumped by 0.59% to $57.96 per barrel (pb), while global benchmark Brent futures climbed by 0.98% to $64.98 pb.
