Renault to assemble, sell vehicles in Nigeria

Mubasher: Renault plans to assemble two low-cost vehicles in Nigeria within the framework of a partnership with local conglomerate Coscharis, according to the French auto manufacturer’s statement.

Renault’s Logan and Duster models would be assembled in a Coscharis-owned assembly facility in Lagos, the Nigerian capital, as from next October.

The car giant seeks “to respond to the demand of the new emerging middle class of the countries like Nigeria,” which is populated by more than 200 million people.

Renault, which claims 18% share of the African car market, said that all, plans to import two other models, the crossover Kwid and the Oroch pickup from Brazil.

All of the four models will be distributed by Coscharis, which is active in several segments of the Nigerian economy, including auto manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, food, and health.
