UAE – Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded AED 1.437 billion ($391.2 million) contract for the construction of 250 megawatts pumped-storage hydroelectric power station at Hatta to a consortium of companies.

The winning consortium includes Strabag Dubai, Austria’s Strabag, Andritz Hydro, and Ozkar, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Saturday.

"This pumped-storage hydroelectric power station project is part of our efforts, initiatives, and plans to achieve the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid,” CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said.

Expected to last up to 80 years, the project is planned to be commissioned by February 2024.

“DEWA’s strategy supports the UAE Centennial 2071, the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to ensure a sustainable, happy future and support the UAE’s aim to become first in everything," Al Tayer commented.

The new project will contribute to the realisation of the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy 2050 to provide 75% of emirate’s total power output from clean energy by 2050.
