Huawei dismisses US affiliate blacklist ‘unjust’

Mubasher: Huawei described the US administration’s decision include more of the Chinese telecoms behemoth to a blacklist as an “unjust” and “politically motivated” move, CNBC reported.

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross on Monday said another 90-day reprieve would be granted to Huawei, allowing the company to conduct business with US firms.

However, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) also added another 46 Huawei affiliates to the so-called Entity List.

“These actions violate the basic principles of free market competition, [and] they are in no one’s interests, including US companies,” Huawei said in a statement on Tuesday.

Last May, the Chinese giant was placed on the Entity List, but shortly after, Washington offered 90 days permitting US businesses to resume sales and products specific to them.

Huawei is planning alternatives if US export restrictions will not be scrapped, the company’s founder Ren Zhengfei on Tuesday told the Associated Press (AP).

“Attempts to suppress Huawei’s business won’t help the US achieve technological leadership,” the company said in a statement, calling on Washington to end this “unjust treatment” and remove the company from the list.

Earlier this year, Huawei lowered its revenue projection, expecting $30 billion hit to its revenues in the upcoming two years.
