UAE to tax e-cigarettes, sweetened drinks
The tax will include energy drinks

UAE – Mubasher: The UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has started the policymaking procedures to impose taxes on pre-cautionary goods and tax rates, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) stated on Saturday.

The selective tax will be expanded to include electronic smoking devices, liquids, sweetened beverages, tobacco and its products, energy drinks, and soft drinks on which the selective tax was introduced in October 2017, KUNA added.

The recent announcement came in line with the UAE’s efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle for society to reduce diseases related to the consumption of harmful products.

The selective tax is an indirect tax imposed on certain harmful goods to reduce their consumption.
