UAE - Mubasher: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has held a strategic summit in collaboration with China’s Huawei to boost mutual cooperation in innovation, disruptive technologies, smart grids, digital transformation, automation, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The strategic summit was attended by managing director and CEO of DEWA Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and president of the Middle East Region at Huawei Technologies Charles Yang, according to a press release.

During the summit, the two parties have launched a joint AI laboratory, through which they will develop and carry out AI digital services for the Middle East.

The summit also witnessed the launch of a training and development programme for DEWA staff in different areas of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and disruptive technologies.

Both parties stressed that they are determined to boost cooperation to achieve their strategic objectives that include developing joint digital services and joint marketing of digital services in the UAE and around the world, as well as enhancing the benefits of these services.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: “DEWA supports the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who instructed Dubai Government to deliver services that are 10 years ahead of other cities, and to work under the leadership of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.”

“DEWA has achieved considerable progress in this and one of its most prominent achievements is the launch of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA, to redefine the concept of utilities and create a new digital future for Dubai, to become the premier digital organisation in the world; with autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage and the expansion of artificial intelligence and digital services,” Al Tayer added.

Al Tayer noted that Digital DEWA’s strategy includes the launch of advanced solar power technologies in Dubai, represented in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with a planned total capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030.

Digital DEWA also aims to deploy a renewable energy grid with innovative energy storage technologies, as well as making Dubai the first city to provide AI-based electricity and water services.

In the same vein, DEWA has launched Rammas, through which it extends its AI to all its operations.

Moreover, Digital DEWA will boost its digital services through a platform previously launched by MORO in 2018.
