Google to relocate China’s Pixel smartphone production in Vietnam–Report
Google aims to move its US-bound hardware out of China

Mubasher: Google is moving its Pixel smartphone production out of China to Vietnam, as from this year, within its push to build a cheap supply chain, according to Nikkei business daily.

The US internet giant aims to move its US-bound hardware out from China, including Pixel phones and its smart speaker Google Home, the Japanese financial newspaper said.

For smart speakers, some operations are set to be relocated to Thailand, but the new product development and initial production for its will remain in China.

The search engine company’s decision coincides with surging labour costs in China, as well as pressures from spiking tariffs due to the flaring trade war between Washington and Beijing.

Google plans to ship around 8 million to 10 million smartphones this year, double from last year, which would throne Vietnam as a major part of its drive for growth in the smartphone market, Nikkei added.
