Egypt starts shifting to Meeza cards in September
Meeza cards are equipped with contactless payment chips

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s Ministry of Finance (MoF) has started replacing about 5 million government payroll cards with the new national e-payment cards “Meeza” starting from 1 September, according to a statement on Tuesday.

Meeza cards, equipped with contactless payment chips, offer additional services including cash withdrawals from ATMs, online shopping, and online payment of government services as well as purchase from point-of-sale (POS) machines.

This move is a major step towards digital transformation and financial inclusion, the statement added.

Banks offering government e-payment services include the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), Banque Misr, Housing and Development Bank (HDB), Arab African International Bank (AAIB), Emirates NBD, Banque du Caire, Arab Banking Corporation (ABC), the United Bank of Egypt, Commercial International Bank (CIB), and Qatar National Bank (QNB).
