Mubasher: Oman-based water solutions company Majis Industrial Services agreed with Unicorn International to set up a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy plant at Sohar port, according to the the industrial services provider’s statement.

With an investment of OMR 500,000, Unicorn will establish a PV plant, which is set to operate by the end of 2020, deploying 3,600 solar modules and 15 solar inverters to produce 2,350 million kilowatt hours (kwh) of energy per year.

The plant will have an installed capacity of 1.30 megawatt peak (mwp), a unit for measuring the maximum output of solar power in a PV facility.

“Our agreement with Unicorn International is a critical step in reducing the carbon footprint of our water services in SOHAR, while also reducing operating costs,” Majis’ CEO Ahmed Saif Al-Mazrouy said.

The project will save 681,000 cubic metres of gas per year, which eventually will reduce 1,462 tonnes of Co2 emissions annually.

“Photovoltaic solar power generation is increasingly cost effective and enables businesses to reduce their carbon footprint,” Unicorn’s managing director Ali Abdullah Saif Al Maskery said.
