Marriott Int’l expects 40 new Africa properties by 2023

Mubasher: Marriott International is expecting to add 40 properties and more than 8,000 rooms across Africa by 2023, according to the hotel giant’s statement.

The global hotelier’s development pipeline through 2023 in the continent is expected to drive investment of more than $2 billion from property owners, while it is set to create over 12,000 new jobs.

The expected growth through 2023 is led by strong demand and sustained growth for its premium and select-service brands.

Marriott signed deals to open its first property in Cape Verde and further extend its footprint in Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria.

“The economic growth the region is witnessing, along with the substantial emphasis countries across the continent are placing on the travel and tourism sector, present us with immense opportunities for growth,” Marriott’s Middle East and Africa president and managing director Alex Kyriakidis said.
