Dubai - Mubasher: du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi School of Management (ADSM) to collaborate on the development of 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and internet of things (IoT) under the UAE 5G Innovation Gate (U5GIG) programme.

Under the MoU, du and ADSM will work jointly on the research and development of a 5G/IoT ecosystem aiming to develop early 5G, AI, and IoT use cases, according to a press release.

The MoU was signed by President and Provost of Abu Dhabi school of Management Abdullah Abunamah and chief technology officer (CTO) at EITC Saleem Al Blooshi during the events GITEX Technology Week 2019 taking place in Dubai until Thursday, 10 October 2019.

Saleem Al Blooshi said: “Through this agreement, du is proud to be collaborating with leading academic experts from ADSM to spearhead the UAE’s evolution towards establishing a world-class 5G ecosystem that establishes a platform for next generation technologies.”

For his part, Abdullah Abonamah said: “At ADSM, we believe that the collaboration of experts in the field of 5G and IoT will be crucial towards realising the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. du is an industry leader when it comes to the adoption of new technologies, which will enable this agreement with ADSM to have significant impact on researching and developing innovations that will shape the connected ecosystems of the future.”

U5GIG, which is a consortium comprising technical and academic organisations in the UAE and global telecom vendors hosted in Dubai Silicon Oasis, is an innovative initiative focused on developing 5G standards by 2020 and beyond.

This programme was inspired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with an eye towards UAE innovation and Dubai Future Accelerators.
