Kuwait’s holdings of US Treasuries hit $44.1bn in August-19
Kuwait ranked the third Arab holder of the US treasury securities

Mubasher: Kuwait's holdings of the US Treasury bonds increased by 1.4% year-on-year to $44.1 billion in August 2019 when compared to $43.5 billion, according to data by the US Department of the Treasury.

Month-on-month, the country’s holdings of the US treasuries edged up by 0.23% in August, compared to $44 billion in July amid worries over a global recession.  

Based on the US data, Kuwait’s holdings were distributed as $38.821 billion worth of long-term Treasury bonds and $5.280 billion worth of short-term treasury securities.

Among the Arab countries, Kuwait ranked the third Arab holder of the US treasury securities, following Saudi Arabia, which came in the first place with a value of $183.8 billion, and the UAE in the second place with a value of $49.4 billion.

Globally, Japan topped the countries holding the US treasury securities with a value of $1.174 trillion, followed by China with a value of $1.103 trillion, and the United Kingdom with a value of $349.9 billion.
