US online shopping records $7.4bn during Black Friday

Mubasher: Black Friday shoppers have set a new online spend record of $7.4 billion during the second largest Internet shopping day ever, with the average order value per consumer rising by 6% year-on-year (YoY) at $168, CNBC reported citing Adobe Analytics.

Adobe Analytics measured transactions from 80 of the top 100 U.S. online retailers.

America’s Small Business Saturday, which is a shopping holiday held during the Saturday after the US Thanksgiving marking the last one in November, has already seen a higher online spend by 18% YoY at $470 million, as of 9 a.m. ET., sales have already surpassed $3 billion for the day.

Adobe said that consumers became “more comfortable” buying larger items at lower prices without visiting stores, reiterating that online sales were up by 20% YoY in 2019, signalling a jump in cyber activity.

In addition, Adobe forecasts sales to increase by 18.9% YoY at $9.4 billion during Cyber Monday; a marketing term refers to the Monday following the US Thanksgiving holiday and which was created by retailers to encourage people to shop online.

During the US Thanksgiving holiday, shoppers recorded higher sales by 14.5% at $4.2 billion on several items, including Disney’s ‘Frozen 2’ toys, video games such as FIFA 20 and Madden 20, as well as electronics such as Apple AirPods and Samsung TVs.
