US federal aviation admin to impose $3.9m fine on Boeing

Mubasher: The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking to impose a $3.9 million fine on Boeing Company, according to Reuters.

The FAA said that Boeing failed to prevent the installation of defective parts on around 130 737 NG aeroplanes.

“Boeing failed to adequately oversee its suppliers to ensure they complied with the company’s quality assurance system. [The company] knowingly submitted aircraft for final FAA airworthiness certification after determining that the parts could not be used due to a failed strength test,” the FAA said.

Boeing did not admit liability, noting that it was aware of the FAA’s concerns.

“We are working closely with our customers to take the appropriate corrective actions,” the American aerospace company’s spokesman Charles Bickers stated.

Boeing has 30 days to respond either by paying or challenging the fine. The company said that it would review the penalty.

The fine announced by the FAA only relates to NG aeroplane components. The NG is the third-generation 737 that the company began building in 1997.
