Abu Dhabi sees 0.8% lower CPI in 11M – SCAD
The ‘food and beverages’ group accounted for 29.4% of CPI’s overall retreat

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 110.8% during the period from January to November 2019, down 0.8% from 111.7% over the same period in 2018, according to the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi’s (SCAD) recent report.

In November 2019, the CPI inched down by 0.3%, standing at 110.3% when compared to 110.6% in November 2018. 

However, the index levelled up by 0.5% in November 2019 when compared to 109.8% in October of the same year.

The lower consumer prices during the period under review have led to 1.3% lower consumer prices for households of the bottom welfare level, and 1.2% and 0.4% lower middle welfare level and top welfare level, respectively, according to SCAD’s report.

Furthermore, the decline has contributed to lower citizen households by 0.8%, along with lower non-citizen households and shared households by 0.9% and 1.4%, respectively.

The ‘housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel’ segment accounted for 137.4% of the overall CPI decrease over the January-November period, posting a 3.6% year-on-year (YoY) retreat.

The prices of the ‘transport’ group retreated by 5.8% YoY over the first eleven months of the year, contributing to 102.9% from the overall decrease.    

Finally, the ‘food and beverages’ group accounted for 29.4% of CPI’s overall retreat during the eleven months period, shedding 2.1% YoY.
