Egypt’s LPG sales drop 6% in H1-19/20

Egypt’s LPG sales drop 6% in H1-19/20
Egypt aims to expand into natural gas as an alternative to LPG

Cairo – Mubasher: Total sales of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fell by 6% year-on-year during the first half of fiscal year 2019/2020, the Egyptian minister of petroleum and mineral resources, Tarek El-Molla, said.

The decline in local consumption of LPG highlights the government’s efforts to expand into natural gas as an alternative to state-subsidised LPG, El-Molla added in a statement on Sunday.

LPG sales are expected to decrease by 6.5% year-on-year for the full fiscal year that will end on June 2020, he revealed.

The petroleum ministry aims to stabilise the LPG market by increasing its strategic storage by setting up new projects to raise the butane storage capacity, along with committing to plans for providing households with access to natural gas.
