General Motors to move 1,350 temporary workers to full-time jobs

Mubasher: American automaker General Motors announced plans to move over 1,350 hourly employees at its assembly plants in the US to 1,350 hourly employees at its assembly plants in the first quarter of 2020, Reuters reported.

The employees are from 14 General Motors manufacturing facilities in Michigan, Indiana, New York, Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, and Kentucky, the Detroit-based company said.

The full-time status will offer the employees better medical benefits, company contributions to their retirement plans, and profit sharing, along with life insurance coverages.

In October, General Motors reached an agreement with the United Auto Workers (UAW) labour union after a strike that pushed for better wages and benefits for temporary workers.

It is worth noting that General Motors generated $2.35 billion in Q3-19, compared with $2.53 billion in Q3-18.
