Cairo – Mubasher: France has requested to join the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), the Egyptian minister of petroleum Tarek El-Molla said.

The assistant to the US deputy secretary of energy also voiced his country’s interest to join the forum as a permanent observer, El-Molla added in a statement during the third ministerial meeting of the forum held in Cairo on Thursday.

The founding members will approve these requests in accordance with the statute of the forum, he remarked.

The Foundation Charter of the EMGF has been approved on Thursday after setting a clear roadmap by the members of the forum, he highlighted.  

Energy ministers from Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and Jordan as well as the adviser to the Palestinian President on economic affairs and the Italian deputy minister of economic development have taken part in the forum.
