FTA establishes new platform for VAT refund on new homes

FTA establishes new platform for VAT refund on new homes
FTA allows applicants to apply for the recovery online

UAE – Mubasher: The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has developed a new platform on its website to facilitate the process of refunding the Value Added Tax (VAT) on building new homes for Emirati citizens through only four documents.

Setting up a new platform, which ensures efficiency, speed, ease, and clarity of procedures, came following consultation meetings held with UAE citizens seeking to recover VAT incurred on the construction of new homes as well as tax agents to consider their opinions on the old tax system, according to a press release on Tuesday.

Through the platform, the FTA allows applicants to apply for the recovery online by using the e-services on its website to expedite the VAT refund process.

This comes alongside reducing the number of original documents to four which will include a copy of the applicant’s family book, a copy of the applicant’s Emirates ID, a building permit, and a document indicating the date from which the building has been occupied.

Commenting on the new platform, FTA director general, Khalid Ali Al Bustani, said: “The Authority collaborates with housing programmes that apply its procedures and required expenses data to reduce the requirements for processing requests from citizens looking to recover VAT incurred on the construction of new homes, where these entities provide the necessary assurances for applications.”

Al Bustani added: “The FTA is working to expand the list of housing programme it collaborates with on this project to allow more UAE nationals to benefit from the ‘fast processing’ service the new platform offers.”
