No extra costs on e-payments for gov’t services – Minister
Egyptian Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait

Cairo – Mubasher: The e-payments systems across Egyptian government entities, which was introduced last May, will not be subject to any additional charges, according to the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait.

The Minister stressed that citizens will not bear extra charges or fees for using the e-payments, urging immediate reporting of any violations, according to a statement by the Ministry of Finance.

This is part of Egypt’s digital transformation efforts to automate government services and ease access across the country to all citizens, the minister noted.

Maait directed the use of QR Code payments and ensuring the availability of point of sale (POS) devices.

Egypt is cooperating with tech giants, including IBM, SAP, and Microsoft to expand the use of digital payments, with plans to launch an e-invoicing system for taxes this year.

Digital transformation contributes 6-8% to the gross domestic product (GDP), the minister previously stated.
