Hyundai closes factories on coronavirus outbreak

Mubasher: South Korea’s automaker Hyundai has shut down all of its factories in the country after running out of components from China due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus outbreak, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

The shutdown did not affect Kia Motors, Hyundai noted, adding that its operations in South Korea are projected to be resume next week.

Hyundai said that it seeking alternatives for the Chinese components, including engine wire-harness.

It is worth noting that German automakers also announced the temporary closures of their production plants in China on the heels of the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The virus which is believed to have originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan has infected more than 20,000 people, leading to more than 420 deaths.
