VW may resume operations in China late February

Mubasher: Volkswagen (VW) has postponed restarting production at its plants in China until 17 February 2020, as the coronavirus outbreak becomes fiercer, Reuters reported on Saturday.

The German automaker said that the reason behind its decision is supply chain challenges as well as limited travel options for its employees.

Most of VW’s plants in China are operated through joint ventures with SAIC Motor and FAW Group.

Earlier in February, Hyundai shut down all of its factories in South Korea after running out of components from China due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Around 28,300 cases have been recorded with the virus, resulting in 565 deaths, while 1,286 patients have recovered.
