Nokia names new CEO

Mubasher: The Finnish telecoms equipment maker Nokia announced the appointment of Pekka Lundmark as its new president and CEO to take up the role from 1 September.

Lundmark will succeed Rajeev Suri who decided to step down after serving for 25 years with Nokia and six years as the head of the Finish networking giant, according to a statement on Monday.

Suri will continue to act as an advisor to the board of Nokia until 1 January 2021, the statement showed.

With the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent behind us and the world of 5G in front of us, I am pleased that Pekka has agreed to join Nokia,” chairman of Nokia, Risto Siilasmaa, said.

Landmark currently serves as president and CEO of the leading energy company Fortum.

The company is well-positioned for the 5G era and it is my goal to ensure that we meet our commitments to our customers, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders,” Lundmark noted.
