UAE – Mubasher: flydubai has allocated six Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 passenger aircraft for all-cargo flights, according to a press release on Wednesday.

This decision came amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which has led to the suspension of passenger flights across the world, as part of the precautionary measures taken to contain the spread of the virus.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, flydubai has used the cargo hold capacity in its passenger aircraft to deliver supplies, including medicines, medical equipment, goods, spare parts, and electronic items to affected areas.

The chief commercial officer at flydubai, Hamad Obaidalla, said: “We recognise that air cargo has an important role to play in supporting the continuity of the supply chain and the efforts at a government and a private sector level to ensure the movement of essential supplies especially during these unprecedented times.”

A total of 44 cargo flights, carrying 146 tonnes of cargo, have been operated by flydubai
