Disinfection gates proving ineffective against coronavirus
Disinfection gates pose health risks to people

Mubasher: Sterilisation gates and rooms placed at the entrance of public places have not proven their effectiveness in curbing the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus (COVID-19), assistant secretary at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, Abdullah Al Bader, recently told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The statement is based on international studies and resources that showed that disinfection gates that spray chemical substances could pose health risks to people.

Spraying disinfectant on the elderly, children, and pregnant women, or patients with respiratory diseases could be even more harmful, he clarified.

Al Bader further emphasised the importance of abiding by all precautionary instructions, including wearing face masks, frequent hand washing, and social distancing measures to combat the virus.

Last week, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) announced that the disinfection gates are not effective in combating COVID-19.

Previously, the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned against using these gates to eliminate the spread of COVID-19 as chemical spraying is meant to clean and disinfect surfaces, not humans.
