GAFI discusses growth plans with entrepreneurs, startups

Cairo – Mubasher: The CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Mohamed Abdel Wahab, discussed with a number of entrepreneurs and startup founders their plans for business growth, as well as service and product development.

GAFI is encouraging investors to take the extra mile in growing their businesses that comply with the country’s strategy and aim to promote and develop the Egyptian society’s capabilities, Abdel Wahab emphasised in a statement released by GAFI on Monday.

Many startup founders previewed their expansion plans for 2020, as well as their ideas to increase their client base in Egypt and abroad.

Head of Sigma-Fit, a techwear company that creates revolutionary products to solve people’s daily challenges, narrated his company’s success story in creating nanotechnology protective products to protect doctors, and how they managed to develop multifunction nanotechnology fluid resistant face masks with very low rates of infection in compliance with international quality standards.

The aforementioned company, whose business activity currently covers Egypt, the US, and Kuwait, eyes for growth opportunities across the Middle East and Africa, he clarified.

Founder of 3elagi company, a healthcare products and service comparison application, explained how the artificial intelligence-enabled application eases expansion and growth, helps reach remote areas, and reduces time wasted in searching for medicines with a single click solution.

This startup aims to increase its number of users in the coming period to more than 100,000 from a current 35,000, and the number of services providers from pharmacies from 800 to 2,500 by the end of the year. The founder further noted that they will start providing remote laboratory and scanning services.

Founder of Paymob, an infrastructure technology enabler to digital financial institutions, spoke about the company’s growth prospects inside Egypt, highlighting the state-of-the-art solutions his company offers in Egypt, Kenya, Palestine, Jordan, and Pakistan, namely mobile wallet technology and payment gateways.

Additionally, founder of BasharSoft, owner of Wuzzuf.com and forasna.com, Egypt’s most popular web-based online employment platforms, revealed that the group company eyes expansion across Africa and GCC markets. The company is also about to launch new services in Egypt in the education sector.

Head of Brimore, a social commerce and parallel distribution platform that helps local suppliers have nationwide coverage, affirmed that the company mulls providing around 3,000 new job opportunities.

GAFI’s CEO commended the startups’ role in offering innovative and leading solutions for the local and international market, highlighting that the efforts, combined together, boost Egypt’s investment environment, enhance crisis management capability, and contribute to societal development.
