UAE lowers holdings of US Treasury bonds in April
The UAE cut its investments in the US debt instruments in April

UAE - Mubasher: The UAE has reduced its holdings of US Treasury bonds by more than 6.6% month-on-month (MoM) to $26.28 billion in April 2020, compared to around $28.03 billion in March 2020, according to the latest data by the US Department of the Treasury.

The UAE cut its investments in the US debt instruments in April for the fourth month in a row.

During the first four months of 2020, the country's purchases of US Treasury bonds declined to $14.45 billion, when compared to $40.7 billion in December.

On an annual basis, the UAE's holdings of US bonds plunged by 53% or $29.42 billion in April 2020, when compared to approximately $55.7 billion in the same months of 2019.

At the level of Arab states, the UAE has maintained its third position among the holders of US bonds; however, the country remained outside the list of the world's top ten holders.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, the largest Gulf country investing in US bonds, lowered its holdings by 21.24% to $125.3 billion in April from $159.1 billion in March.

Globally, Japan's purchases of US Treasury bonds fell to $1.266 trillion in April from $1.272 trillion in March.
