UAE - Mubasher: Emirates airline has refunded AED 1.9 billion to its customers in the past two months, according to a press release on Thursday.
The airline has agreed to around 650,000 refund requests made by its customers following the suspension of flights amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In April, the company has announced its commitment to refund its customers and clear its backlog, which recorded around half a million requests at that time, by August.
Hence, the airline has expanded its processing capability from 35,000 requests per month to around 200,000, leading to achieving its target earlier than scheduled.
Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, said: "Our average processing time for refunds has reduced from 90 days to 60, and as we see lower volumes of new requests we expect this rate to further improve. We still have over half a million refund requests to manage, and expect to clear these within the next 2 months."
