DP World to test world's first HBS container
The last components was assembled this week

Dubai – Mubasher: DP World will conduct the test operations of the world’s first container High Bay Store system (HBS) at Jebel Ali Port before September.

The last major components of the system, developed under a joint venture by DP World and German industrial engineering specialist SMS group GmbH, was assembled this week, according to a press release on Thursday.

With capacity three times more than a conventional yard, the automated handling system can store containers in 11-high stories.

The initial stage of the HBS, which will be the only container yard powered by solar panels on its roof, can accommodate 792 containers.

At the same time, the full industrial HBS yard behind the two under construction berths of Jebel Ali Terminal 4 will be able to store over three million containers per year.

The Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, commented: "With speed, efficiency and digital fitness being key aspects of the port and terminal business, we intend to deliver ‘life inventory’ to our importers."

Meanwhile, the Chairman and CEO of BoxBay, Mathias Dobner, remarked: "With BoxBay more capacity can be managed faster on the same footprint. In addition, this technology with its CO2-neutral operation is trend-settingˮ.
