Cairo – Mubasher: The World Bank approved a new project with Egypt to control air and climate pollution, decrease emissions, and improve solid waste management system in Greater Cairo at a cost of $200 million.

“This project supports our Green Recovery Plan to mitigate and adapt simultaneously, promoting new methods and technologies that help reduce air pollution and curb climate change,” the Minister of International Cooperation, Rania El-Mashat, said in a statement late on Wednesday.

 The project is aimed at modernising air quality monitoring systems and supporting solid waste management in Greater Cairo through establishing a waste management facility in the 10th of Ramadan City and closing and rehabilitating the Abou-Zaabal dumpsite.

The plan also includes “supporting the piloting of electric buses in the public sector and related infrastructure, including charging stations.”

“Egypt is undertaking steps to accelerate the transition towards a more green, sustainable, resilient and inclusive development model,” World Bank Country Director for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, Marina Wes, said.
