Mubasher: The aggregate wealth of billionaires grew by 27.5% to $10.2 trillion during the coronavirus crisis between 7 April and 31 July, exceeding the previous peak of $8.9 trillion recorded in 2017, a new report showed on Wednesday.
The number of billionaires also hit a new record of 2,189, compared to the previous record of 2,158 in 2017, according to “Riding the storm” report co-published by UBS and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
The report covered over 2,000 billionaires from 43 markets worldwide, representing about 98% of total billionaire wealth.
The wealth of billionaires in the technology and healthcare sectors grew by 41.1% and 36.3%, respectively.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has total net worth of $183 billion, an increase of $68 billion year-to-date (YTD).
