Mastercard study shows 72% of Egyptian consumers shop more online since pandemic
Fashion, electronics, healthcare, and groceries witnessed the largest increase of online activity.

Cairo – Mubasher: A Mastercard study showed that 72% of Egyptian consumers are shopping more online since the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic, according to a statement on Tuesday.

Amid the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the virus, social media has played a key role in finding offers and products as 83% and 43% of respondents said that they found new sellers through Facebook and Instagram, respectively.

Fashion, electronics, healthcare, and groceries have witnessed the largest increase of online activity.

Above 62% of Egyptian consumers said that they shopped more online for clothing, 56% for computer equipment, and 55% for medicine.

About 77% of respondents said that speed and price are key factors when choosing a business to buy from.

Amid the rising trend for online shopping, 57% of Egyptian consumers said that they started managing their banking needs online.
