The Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, Nivine El-Kabbag.

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, Nivine El-Kabbag, said there is a mandate to launch a presidential fund to support irregular workers against different risks.

Through the fund, irregular employees will receive financial help as compensation in case of interruption of income due to emergency economic circumstances or pandemics, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The fund further covers those who have not fulfilled the maturity rules of the Takaful and Karama (Solidarity and Dignity) programme as well as mothers, who have no more than three children, for three months after birth.

The minister said the sectors where irregular employment is more common include contracting, seasonal agriculture, fishing, bakeries, restaurants and cafes, and entertainment.

The irregular sector represents around 40% of the national economy, according to the minister.
